Fly fishing demonstrations are live, on-the-water showcases where some of the sport’s most skilled anglers and instructors demonstrate the techniques, skills, and tactics used in modern fly fishing. Set on the banks of the River Tay, these sessions run throughout the day and feature expert casters showing everything from basic casting to advanced Spey techniques.

You’ll see exactly how fly fishing works in real conditions, not just theory, but practical, fish-catching skills brought to life.

Starting at 11am each day, there were six daily demonstrations on the banks of the River Tay, featuring expert fly fishing instructors and industry professionals.

If you’re new, this is the easiest way to get into fly fishing – seeing it done properly makes all the difference. If you’re experienced, it’s a chance to refine your technique, discover new ideas, and learn from some of the best names in the sport.

Question & Answer Sessions

There will be a twice daily questions and answer sessions, where some of our instructors, demonstrators and fly dressers will be happy to answer any specific questions that you may have. An opportunity to come along and answer that question you have always had relating to fly-fishing. No matter what the species being fished for is, we will try and answer your question.

Scottish Federation for Coarse Angling will have a display and will be giving demonstrations on all three days.

Get to Know Our Fishing Demonstrators

Hywel Morgan

Hywel has been fishing for nearly 50 years and during this time he has been crowned World and European Casting Champion. He has also represented Wales over 20 times at Home Internationals, Commonwealth and World Fly Fishing Championships where he has won Individual Silver Medal and two team Silver Medals.

HyweI currently is a game tackle consultant for Daiwa UK and has recently launched his new range of fly fishing rods called ‘HM Air’ covering grayling, trout and salmon fishing.

Will & Al Peake

Will & Al Peake – TwinPeakes Flyfishing – Will and Al operate TwinPeakes Flyfishing which is a Fly Fishing School and Fly shop on the Banks of the River Dee. They act as a field centre for LOOP Tackle and offer guiding, instruction and international trips.

Brian Towers

Brian Towers delivers expert casting instruction under the banner of AAPGAI, holding Master-level qualifications in both single-handed and double-handed disciplines.

He is also a member of the AAPGAI assessment team, where he evaluates and mentors aspiring instructors as they progress through the certification ranks. In addition, Brian serves as a show organiser for AAPGAI, travelling extensively to attend events where he demonstrates fly fishing and casting techniques.

As his business and reputation have grown, Brian is now based as a gillie on the River Ure at the Bolton Castle Estate in Wensleydale, near Leyburn.

Jim Fearn

Jim Fearn has been part of Guide Flyfishing for over 20 years and brings close to 30 years of experience in salmon fishing. He has spent much of his time fishing rivers across northern England and Scotland, as well as travelling to Norway and Russia.

Jim is highly respected within the fly fishing and salmon fishing community, known for both his experience on the water and his technical understanding of casting. He holds the AAPGAI Master qualification in both single and double hand casting, reflecting a high level of skill and dedication to the craft.

Alongside his own fishing, Jim is committed to helping others improve, sharing his knowledge in a clear and practical way with anglers of all levels.

Scott Mackenzie

Scott Mackenzie is a three times World Spey casting champion and was team captain for the winning Scotland team at the Spey casting world championships in Ireland 2006.

Scott has been a fully qualified casting instructor for over 10 years holding an Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors Certificate the UK’s highest level of casting instructor.

Stuart Sutherland

Stuart Sutherland brings over 30 years of fly-fishing experience, having explored the length and breadth of Scotland in pursuit of game, coarse, saltwater, and predatory species. His deep knowledge of Scotland’s waters, combined with a lifelong passion for angling, makes him a trusted and experienced guide.

Through FishX, Stuart specialises in guided fishing trips targeting pike, perch, and trout, offering memorable experiences across some of Scotland’s most scenic and productive locations.
