Celebrating Scotland’s rich countryside heritage, the Scottish Rare Breeds Parade & Exhibition at The GWCT Scottish Game Fair shines a spotlight on some of the country’s most cherished and endangered native dog breeds.

At the 2026 Fair, we were delighted to welcome Peter MacQueen, who helped lead the Scottish Rare Breeds programme, sharing his knowledge and passion for protecting Scotland’s native working dogs.

Throughout the weekend, visitors had the opportunity to discover a variety of rare Scottish breeds, with each day celebrating a different group of Gundogs, Hounds and Terriers.

What to Expect

The Scottish Rare Breeds Parade & Exhibition offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to discover the dogs that have played an important role in Scotland’s countryside and sporting traditions.

From the Main Arena parades to the Rare Native Breeds Area within the World of Gundogs, visitors can see these remarkable dogs up close, meet their owners and speak with knowledgeable breed enthusiasts.

With breeds including Dandie Dinmonts, Skye Terriers, Cairn Terriers and Scottish Terriers showcased in 2026, the exhibition celebrates the unique character, history and working heritage of Scotland’s native dogs.

More than just a parade, it is an opportunity to learn about the importance of protecting these increasingly rare breeds and the dedicated communities helping to secure their future for generations to come.
