We caught up with Tom Ham, founder and CEO of Calton, the financial planning and investment management firm who join the GWCT Scottish Game Fair as official wealth management partner.
What does the Scottish Game Fair mean to you?
Sharp-eyed attendees will recognise Calton from recent fairs and I’m delighted that we’re growing our presence this year. The Fair is a wonderful annual opportunity to catch up with people and forge new connections in a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere. I founded Calton as a financial firm built on personal relationships and long-term thinking. Both of these are in abundance here. Many of our financial planners have family connections to the Scottish countryside and we are firm supporters of rural enterprise.

What’s keeping you busy at present?
We are our clients’ trusted partners in building confidence and peace of mind for the future. We do this by taking a long-term view which we support by reviewing plans. Over the years, we build our clients’ knowledge and trust, giving them the foundations of security. The recent and forthcoming changes to inheritance tax and pensions mean that we are engaging with clients, especially business owners, so that they can adjust if necessary and plan confidently for the future.
Where are you based?
We are headquartered in Edinburgh with offices in the Scottish Borders and in London. Our clients are located across the UK, from Shetland to the South Coast. Face-to-face relationships and continuity of service are core tenets of the business, so our advisers are often on the road visiting clients.
What have you got planned for this year’s Fair?
Our stand is open to everyone who wants to visit throughout the Fair – you’ll find a warm welcome from our team there. We will be holding a variety of informative, fun, relaxed sessions each day. Most of these explore elements of long-term planning and how people and organisations can work together, sharing expertise to ensure sustainability for the rural enterprises and the countryside.

Calton Scottish Game Fair Hospitality Experience
On Friday our team will be on-site in force, catching up with clients and other professionals in the rural sector. As financial planners, we work closely with our clients’ solicitors and tax accountants to provide in-the-round advice.
On Saturday morning we’re holding a fireside chat on global markets and portfolio-building. We won’t be short of interesting material for discussion. All are welcome to join.
On Sunday, there’s more of a family theme – games and sweet refreshments are available.
You will find us on the Main Arena and will receive a warm welcome. Please do come over and say hello. We’re open every minute of the Fair, offering drinks, light refreshments and somewhere to sit down.
