How do you get started down the route of diversification, holiday cottages and lets? I talked to Katie Williams at Sykes Cottages who specialise in this area. What’s the situation now and how has it changed in the last few years? Changing times Katie said: “The way in which we take holidays is changing. Whereas ...

What has the GWCT ever done for shooting?

2024-05-23T10:57:26+00:00

By Felix Meister, Advisor (Scotland) It was as a gamekeeping student at Borders College that I first became aware of the crucial role that the GWCT has played in improving the conditions for gamebirds ever since the foundation of the ICI Game Research Station in 1931. When an opportunity presented itself to work for the GWCT in 2022, I gladly took it, and it was then that I realised the true extent of its contribution to the shooting and gamekeeping communities. As part of the research team, I soon learned that our research work in Scotland enjoys a unique degree of ...

Are you a Wegan? Should you be?

2025-04-02T10:06:27+00:00

What is Weganism? Weganism is veganism with a game twist. Wegans only eat wild meat and fish that they have shot or caught themselves. There are several famous wegans around. These included goats, pigs, chickens and lobsters. https://twitter.com/MuskokaWitch/status/1612469014722408453 New York Times best selling author Tim Ferriss is often credited as having brought the term Weganism into mainstream parlance when he included it in his Five Bullet Friday newsletter.
