We’re delighted to welcome the Dandie Dinmont Terrier to this year’s Scottish Game Fair as part of our celebration of rare native breeds.
About the Dandie Dinmonts

-
One of Scotland’s oldest and most endearing terriers, the Dandie Dinmont is easily recognisable by its distinctive topknot of silky white hair, soulful eyes, long low-set body, and short, sturdy legs.
-
Charming in both looks and nature, Dandies are affectionate, independent, and quietly confident.
-
Originally bred to hunt otters and badgers, they’re tough little exterminators with deep working roots and a dignified presence.
-
Despite their countryside heritage and love of outdoor play, Dandies adapt well to modern life, making loyal and intelligent companions whether in rural or urban homes.
-
Their coats come in two traditional colours: pepper (bluish-black to silver-grey) and mustard (reddish-brown to pale fawn)—both as distinctive as their personalities.
-
Weighing no more than 24 pounds, Dandies are bold, alert watchdogs with a surprisingly deep bark, balanced by a love for children and a fondness for cuddles.
But sadly, this remarkable breed is now one of the UK’s most vulnerable. With fewer than 100 puppies registered annually, the Dandie Dinmont is a true rarity—making their appearance at the Fair a not-to-be-missed event.
Whether you’re a terrier enthusiast or new to the breed, come and discover why the Dandie Dinmont Terrier remains a national treasure with a big heart and an even bigger personality.
